Death of a Minivan
Jan. 27th, 2012 10:51 pmSo this afternoon I got off work, ran a couple vital errands, came home, and said to husband, "Husband, let's see if my folks will watch the kids and we'll go on a date." So we took the kids to the P's and took ourselves in the minivan to a neighboring town, where we enjoyed the best Mexican food I know at a fabulous little restaurant where the owner knows about everybody by name, his wife is hostess, and his mother stands in the front window hand-pressing tortillas a good part of the night.
We left the restaurant in soft, peaceful snowfall, arrived across the street in the parking lot where we'd parked the minivan, and found that it had given up the ghost sometime during dinner. The trans crashed and the car will no longer go in reverse, and probably won't go in drive either (hard to tell, there was a small tree in front of us).
Well, how many times can you hit up your elderly parents for favors in an evening? They sponsored date night and our recent furnace purchase. I called my sister instead. So, long story short, it looks like we're in the market for another vehicle. Has to seat eight. Has to be paid in full with whatever I get back on my tax refund, whenever that happens.
Husband is still out in the garage, trying to identify the various pools of fluid that last drained from the van. "It's sort of transparent and greasy, then there's black and sticky, and some more watery red." Is there anything the van is not leaking?
